Thank you for the reminder of men who had such an impact on the world. Samuel Pepys had a lot of sensible things to say (and some not so sensible!). This is a truth I am following.

“The truth is, I do indulge myself a little the more in pleasure, knowing that this is the proper age of my life to do it; and, out of my observation that most men that do thrive in the world do forget to take pleasure during the time that they are getting their estate, but reserve that till they have got one, and then it is too late for them to enjoy it.” The Diary of Samuel Pepys

I remember standing in line in third grade at Henry Wadsworth Longfellow grade school in East St Louis Illinois and getting that first polio shot. Some of our classmates had withered arms or walked with crutches as a result of this disease. Because of supply we children received the first inoculations. Eisenhower was our President. Different kind of Republican then.
