TWA Poet: Richard Wilbur

1921 - 2017

It’s the birthday of poet Richard Wilbur, born in New York City (1921). He wrote poetry occasionally as a child — he was paid one dollar for his first published poem at age eight — but it was just one of many interests, and he didn’t imagine that it would become his career. He went to Amherst, where he was the editor of the student literary magazine.
