A return to reading Edith Hamilton in middle school and Wordsworth and Southey and Shakespeare in high school instead of the drivel in YA novels would curtail the banned books debacle and allow students to use their own powers of critical thinking and imagination. I can’t help but think the publishing industry has a hand in pushing this argument.
