I work in a library shelving books amongst other oddities. I once read Generation X by Douglas Coupland in my twenties. The Head of Adult Services was curious with this Canadian author. He was unaware of Douglas and the moniker he coined for a generation. Microserfs was a satire on the whole Microsoft culture. I wrote a book review for him on the content. He added it to the shelves. I am thankful also to Paul Bowles. I discovered The Sheltering Sky by its film adaptation. The book was quite surreal and exotic like the setting of Tangiers, Morocco. A lost masterpiece of sorts.
