Thank you for posting the poem. I would still like to address that what used to be a link to original text and audio no longer works. You can't click on it. Just hoping this can be fixed. It worked yesterday. ORIGINAL TEXT AND AUDIO - 2017
That was not a typical TWA as it seemed much longer and more in-depth than usual. Maybe there isn’t an audio version. It kinda seems like it was written, but never edited to have Garrison speak it as he normally did.
Those who advocate so-called Christian nationalism might profit from a study of the British experience, to wit: which particular form of Christianity shall be established? It goes without saying that the atheists, Hindus, Jews, Muslims, Sikhs, . . . shall become unerwünscht.
This Substack thing is not working for me. Please revert to what you used to do or refund my money.
For some reason, the link to original text and audio isn't working. I wanted to read the poem. Please advise.
"Bread and Butter":
By Gayle Brandeis,
for Michael.
I often wonder how people figured
things out—simple things, like bread,
and butter. How did the first person know
to grind, and knead, and bake,
to milk, and skim, and churn?
How did someone realize they could soak
olives in lye, or let grape juice ferment
inside casks of oak? How, when
we first leaned toward each other,
did our tongues know to touch
before our brains knew
we were going to kiss at all?

Oh, I forgot the Catholics. They too must be on the list, given the long-standing position of the Pope on anthropogenic climate change.
