I put Melville's "Moby Dick" to strange use: I live in a place where several familes homeschool their kids. When I have the opportunity, I say to their teenagers "Call me Ishmael!". Invariably, I get no spark of recognition, just strange looks. Then I say "It was the best of times, it was the worst of times", and they are sure that I am nuts, unaware that they just proved that a parent cannot possibly provide the same quality of education that you can receive from a school full of trained teachers...
