The Writer's Almanac from Tuesday, May 14, 2013
No ‘Original text audio’ link
No link to the poem, but such a nice account of how this expedition finally got underway!
Audio not working
All the books and years of being fascinated by the expedition, I did not know this pre-story. Thank you for a wonderful read this morning w my coffee and hardtack.
I don.t know if we can't read this because there is a link to download a phone app to read this, but I always read this on my computer
No link to audio. This happens now & then, & it is always annoying.

When this happens, just call up yesterday’s webpage and hit the “NEXT” link up top.
The only member of the expedition to die was Sergeant Charles Floyd of Kentucky, probably of acute appendicitis.
Outside of Bozeman, Montana, heading into/towards the Bridger Mpuntains, there is a site where the expedition camped., probably up Kelly Canyon.
For a very readable record of the trip: Those Tremendous Mountains: The Story of the Lewis and Clark Expedition by David Freeman Hawke.
