His six disiderata stand on their own merit. Van Gogh was a unique, talented, but also tormented artist was he. His paintings do display his own unique artistic talent.

What's most touching about his gift to posterity, perhaps, is the beautiiful music by Don Mclean about Van Gogh in "Starry, Starry Night." The music is as lovely another palette.

I tend to be attracted to the ones who are sensitive, tortured artists whether it is Dickinson, Kerouac, Van Gogh, Pollock, Buckley, and Cohen. I myself dabble in poetry as a way to alleviate my anxiety and depression. I'm told learning to master an art form such as Poetry is equivalent of playing a musical instrument. Mental Illness is part of the genius or so it seems. I try to be open to other reader's evaluations but the human heart continues to be stressed and strained.
