I am partial to the Beat Generation. I'm not an idealist or a communist. Kerouac opened my consciousness towards literary enlightenment. I learned about Burroughs, Ginsberg, Ferlinghetti, and Cassady from their books + readings. There is opposition against Allen due to his blatant homosexuality and the way he clung to musicians like Dylan and the Beatles. "Howl" is a lyrical masterpiece. I rediscovered his poetry on one of the recordings by Brit group Cornershop "When the Light Appears Boy". I know that our world would be less tolerant of a modern Beat movement. It saddens me how our literary heroes will die with their reputations not intact.
